The ultra rare 1967 lost "Jimi Hendrix At The Saville Theatre" poster is now available, after 35 years, in limited quantities. Reprinted from the original art work, high quality custom printed on heavy stock, supervised by the photographer/designer Karl Ferris.
Originally commissioned by Brian Epstein, the Saville's owner and, famously, the Beatles' manager, the poster features the well-known psychedelic "Fisheye" photograph of the band taken by Karl Ferris, the Saville's "House photographer" at the time, as well as lettering that was later used on the album cover for the Jimi Hendrix Experience's first US album "Are you experienced".
During the summer of 1967, the Saville Theatre was THE place for live music in London. A former opera theatre, its boxes were reserved for rock royalty -- the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Donovan, Jimi Hendrix among them -- who would show up to watch other hot acts of the time. |
